'Touching' tribute to Hospital Radio DJ.

A gold record will be a lasting tribute to popular DJ Warwick Lewis, who broadcast his extensive music knowledge to patients at Torbay Hospital for the last 13 years. Family and friends gathered for a 'touching' dedication ceremony at Torbay Hospital Radio, where the special 45rpm single, complete with a photo of Warwick, was mounted on the wall of the record library. The music guru had hosted his show called the Lost 45s every Tuesday night until his death in February, aged 59.
Warwick Lewis Warwick's one-month-old granddaughter Minnie May was one of the special guests at the ceremony, alongside his children Melanie and Paul. Widow Cynthia said: "Warwick would have been really touched. It was a beautiful occasion. "I hadn't realised the photograph of Warwick in the studio had been taken. It's lovely because it captures him doing something he really loved. "They presented me and the children with the photograph in a frame. "I didn't know many of the presenters but it was great to meet them and they're a lovely crowd."
Warwick's knowledge of the music industry was described as 'unbelievable' and he refused to use the computerised system, preferring to stick to his beloved records. Cynthia estimates he collected around 8,000 to 10,000 records during his lifetime and loved going around car boot sales and to record fairs.
Bob Myers, treasurer and trustee at Torbay Hospital Radio, said: "Now we've got a special memorial to Warwick to mark his involvement. "The photo was taken only a few weeks before he died so it was very fitting that we should use it. About 25 people turned up and it was a lovely occasion."
It was also fitting that Warwick's old pub quiz team the Rockin' Robins won the annual quiz at Beverley Holiday Park, Goodrington, the night before the dedication ceremony.
